Publisher's Description:

Scotts Windows Startup Program Manager - Scott's Windows Startup Program manager is a utility designed to let you manage the programs that automatically start when your Windows PC boots up. These programs are generally stored in the windows registry, and are difficult to edit, unless you are familiar with how the windows registry works. This software is designed to be a much easier interface to let you add, remove, and edit items from the startup list. This program is free for non-commercial use, and has no expirations, time limits, disabled features, adware, spyware, or any other junk that will keep you from using it. So why do you need to edit the windows startup programs? Well, there are several reasons. The first is that some program you installed put something annoying in there that you don't want. For example, maybe your digital camera installs a "helpful tool" that automatically pops up every time you boot and asks you if you want to update your software to the latest version. A second situation is that maybe you've been the victim of an adware or spyware attack. The adware programs often place themselves in the windows startup settings so that their adware program gets loaded each time. So you go in, find something that doesn't belong, and nuke it. Finally, there's one other situation I can think of where you might find this software useful -- let's say you actually *want* something loaded at startup (maybe a tool you find useful...), then you can use this software to add the thing you want to the list. You *could* do all of this with a registry editor like regedit, but using this tool is so much easier! ... and it's *free*

I have used this program, Scotts start up manager, successfully on my desk top running xp but when I downloaded it for my laptop running Vista the program was prevented from deleting selected programs from the start up list. The program appeared to be selecting the chosen program but after running the delete the chosen program was still in the list.
Any suggestions?

The program worked

I'm glad to be able to get the custom programs to appear at startup. Makes things such as my registration reminder and e-mail notifier actually work the way they're supposed to. Very good.

Beware - doesn`t list all startup entries.

The only issue I have with this program is that it does not list all the things that start up, such as AOL Instant Messenger, virtually all Adobe apps including Acrobat Assistant, iTunes, Google and Java updaters, Punkbuster, and many spyware and adware entries. It is quite good at listing entries that you need to keep, but when it comes to things you don't want but that are loading at startup anyway you may find yourself manually quitting them each time you boot up your computer. If one is good with computers this is merely an annoyance, but for someone who is not fmilliar with using ctrl+alt+delete to quit an app this program is not so good at all.

Does the job.

Just what you need, a simple list of programs that start up with Windows (that don't give you a choice during installation or have the ability to be switched off - developers need to get with the program) that you can CHOOSE to disable to ensure your PC does not take 3 lifetimes to boot up!

Very Helpful, especially for beginners

It would be very helpful to have a legend or guide to explain what some of the registers were and their function. Thanks
